How
long will Subspace last? This is a simple question with a hard answer.
If time is taken to recognize what Subspace is it can be seen that it is
a uniquely awesome game. It has only be recreated once in the inferior
game Infantry. (Never heard of it? Don’t waste your time with finding
and trying it out.) Subspace, designed for ease of use, limited
requirements, and great replay value is one of a kind. Yet, is this superb
game behind in time? Subspace is a two-dimensional game, it lacks a
sequel (which it doesn’t need), and was ditched and forgotten by its
creators.
Personally, I’d like to see Subspace never end, hopefully that will be the case. With the current players and their support it should last forever. When however will the game of Subspace be out of style? Will it fade out when everyone has virtual reality in their home? My bet is that Subspace never dies… I figure though that the Subspace community will not grow proportionally to the human population and will slowly fade into an obscure game. |

New Client
No doubt we are all anxiously awaiting the arrival of the new Subspace client called Continuum. With this new client brings many new changes that may take place to the game. We will no doubt make it much harder for cheaters to have their way, but we can also enhance the game. The 256 color bitmaps can be changed to 24-bit so that more colors can be used; this will enhance the look of everything in the zone. However, how many changes do we make before the game no longer is Subspace? Some people want new weapons, new tile shapes, new ways to configure the server. Do we really want to do all these things? The creators of Subspace made infantry, but Subspace has something that Infantry does not. Simplicity. Subspace can run on almost any machine, and takes little time to download. While with infantry it takes a fair machine and a very long time to download, not to mention to download the levels themselves. So before you urge the developers to make mandatory shipset downloads for your zone, or for round tiles, remember, this is Subspace, and simplicity is one of the things that makes it great. -Jagr |

have noticed anymore Subspace is just not the same. We have lost alot
of the people that went to major lengths to make this game fun. Alot of
the good zones are gone or have been forgotten. Even Subspace sites
have been really cut down. Before you would see SSNET, SS.DS98.COM,
SSHQ, SSZONE.NET, Ein's Minefield, SS.NMEBASE.COM, the list could go one
forever. Now you only see a few sites and some sites are not nearly as
updated as sites before. The only two major SS site's out there
anymore is SSNET and SSHQ. Maybe things will get better and at least
there is more Subspace players now, but things are changing and I am not
quite sure if it is all for the good.

not find any subspace site listed in the first ten pages. So we need to
get working on those meta tags and getting our sites listed higher.

]. SubSpace was the game of the month for August 2000. So we can use

is a new kick ass zone in Subspace. SSCI Stealth Zone is up and running
and I encourage everyone to try it out. The zone is new and fun.
Settings are alittle shakey, but will be ironed out soon. A webpage for
the zone is coming soon. As well as events and a league. Seeya in the

Those of you who never got round to updating their zone list will find
all is well. Those who did update their list with new server will have
to refresh their list once again (Find Severs --> Directory Server

For now you can use IP: 194.177.113.30 & Port: 17500 and server name is NGI Super Ships temporary Server you can also re-add the Zone from the Directory Servers instead of adding the IP to your favorites.lst.
The Temporary Server is Connected to the SSC Billing so there wont be any changes for Scores and Squads etc.
Because of this temporary problem we have moved our Opening Spring Swars Event to next Saturday April the 7th at 6:00 pm est.
Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

BD Vine, Server Operator of SSCU and the SSC Billing Server made an important update to the SSCU website yesterday:
Earlier this week someone set up a zone faking itself as SSCU Ghost Town, with the obvious intention of stealing passwords from unsuspecting players. As soon as this was found out, the zone in question was banned from the directory servers.
If, while logging in to an SSC connected zone using any of your previously used accounts, you get the "Unknown user, continue as new player?" message box, you'll know something is wrong about the zone and you SHOULD NOT log in. In a case like this do not hesitate to send me email where you state the name of the zone and the date and time you noticed this.
To see a list of zones currently connected to the SSC billing system, see our scores page. The current list of SSCU zones is as follows:

behind the scenes lately, I haven't had a lot of time to keep
Subspace.Net fully updated. Not to fear though, I'm back and bringing
SS.NET out of 'hibernation'. With that said, onto some news!

Secondly, the database for our Webmail Services crashed last week, and as a result, most of our accounts were knocked offline. Fortunately though, the problem has been fixed, and hopefully by tomorrow our all new Automated Sign Up feature for webmail will be operational. What does this mean you ask? Good question. Basically, it means you no longer have to wait while we create your accounts, you can sign up and have your account created instantly!
That's just a brief recap of events going on, non-Subspace related. Once we fix things internally over the next week, prepare for an all out blitz and a brand spanking new Subspace.Net!

Out War is coming back. And it is this Saturday at 9:30pm EST that it
is coming back in ExS Purgatory. The new focus for All Out War events is
to help bring publicity to zones that need help. So come to ExS
Purgatory this Saturday at 9:30pm EST. The game is going to be
Dominator. The game is where there is too teams. Each team gets to pick
their Dominator. The person on each team that is chosen will then be
prized periodic and random prizes to have a more powerfull ship. The
team must protect their "dominator" to win. The team that kills the
other teams "dominator" five times wins.

better than before. Same with the map :). Now that I have gotten most of

large squars are where the bases will go. Try to make the base fit in

yesterday afternoon USD/WLI Annihilation was the latest vicitms to the
hackers. Our server located in California was hacked and passwords were
stolen. Since then USD/WLI Annihilation has moved servers back to and
older server that is located in Texas and moved over to SSC Billing.
This will allow us to have better security for our zone and provide our
players with a better atmosphere. To find USD/WLI Annihilation you are
going to have update your server list to enter it. Seeya in the Zone!!!
Passwords Compromised CybeRise | Monday, March 19, 2001
Earlier
this week, several personal passwords may have been stolen from SSC
servers by hackers. This problem has been fixed and a patch released.
For your own security purposes, it would be wise to change your personal
password by going into a zone and typing ?password=yournewpasshere.
This should solve any potential problems that may arise.

has attacked some ExS zones. They steal peoples names and have wiped
out *OuTkAsT*, and 1stStrike zones so far. Who ever is doing it left a
note on the map saying "You been owned by GD." I don't beleive he did
this, probubly someone trying to get him in trouble. They obviously
didn't do a good job. This is ment as a warning, cause I have no idea
how they are doing it or if they still are. So be verry carfull, and
make sure you don't give out staff password to anybody not even your
staff. Send it to them in an email instead. They might not be the real
person.

to enourmous request, we are not able to do all the Submail and hosting
requests. Currently there are over 6,000 hosting and submail requests
sitting there and it is basically just impossible to pick at them all
manually and still remain sane at the end of the day.
We will have an automatic signup form for Submail very soon though, so that will solve many big problems. As for hosting requests, that will continue again once we have cleared up some server side issues. :)

In this league, each zone will need 5 racers to represent their home zone and a race arena.
Racers will compete weekly at a different track provided by zones within the league.
It will not be manditory for all 5 to compete, but since the league will be based on points earned from 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place each week, it is to your advantage to have as many racers,(max 5), to show up and represent your individual zone.

I don't think Purgatory is doing to well, so I am working on another
zone. First I wanna wait till after my turn in SSU. Then I'll be putting
GravityWell up. It's a hard zone to master. You gota have lots of
skill. You must get money(points) to upgrade your ship so you have a
better chance at defending your planets. Look for the zone to appear in
about a month from now.

Ragewars event Shockwave Bombs is Starting this friday at 8 pm. It
consists of some very interesting settings where if you start out with
prox and you shoot a bomb around some one it will make a "shockwave"
that will kill everyone in the area. But starting with prox will be rare
to prevent mass chaos. This event is definetly original and very cool.
You people should at least drop in for a while and check it out!!!

Well,
it has been a bit of a while since I posted news here at ss.net for
anything, and I had a bit of problems with my computer and ISP at the
same time, figures! I got them fixed and had a few tech e-mails to reply
to that were kinda old..... Got a message back from one person who told
me that problem was resolved, oh well. Well anyway, I have all my
